Her desire to serve in local government led to her earning a BA in Urban Studies from DePaul University and a Master’s in Urban Planning & Policy from UIC. Jennifer has worked in five different communities as well as at the federal level and for a council of government. Her career has included positions as the Human Resources Assistant for the City of Elmhurst, the Assistant City Administrator for the City of Warrenville, and currently as Director of Human Resourc
On this day 99 years ago it was ratified throughout our nation that women had the right to vote. It became the “Law of the Land.” No longer could women be forced to sit by and watch men only exercise their rights. I was recently asked to write a story for a book that is concerning the challenges of being a woman in ministry. Though the challenges can appear subtle and overlooked because of familiarity, they still exist and are often “not so subtle.” The stories I’ve heard from other women in ministry and even experiences that I’ve had would shock many at how far we still have to go to live in the truth that we were created equal. Participating in a pretty intense professional development workshop over last two days. Had epiphany as I was writing on the topic of “finding your purpose”: if you don’t know your divine purpose, a counterfeit will rise up to rob you of your destiny. It will suck the life out of you but will have a semblance of “calling” and seem right. This counterfeit will keep you in a rut and will not produce lasting fruit. For me, I saw in the past where my calling to “unleash people’s potential” actually resulted in me being an enabler and rescuer. It nearly destroyed me. God wants you to discover your divine purpose. He will not hide it from you and it will be a place of productivity, peace and ful
